The Bryn Mawr Club of Boston hosted its annual Send-Off Reception for entering freshwomen. After chatting over light refreshments, our group of 30 came together while newly graduated Emily Anne Lewis ’07, and current undergraduates Julie O’Neil ’10, Katharine Penzo ’09, and Ahele Purkayastha ’09 enthusiastically shared their various Bryn Mawr experiences with the 10 new freshwomen and their parents. Each offered helpful information about the academic life at Bryn Mawr as well as the social and club activities at the college and in the surrounding communities.
The event was coordinated by Kyoko Yamamoto ’01, Admissions Rep for the Club, and Nancy Thayer, Senior Assistant Director for Admissions at the college. Jane Lifton ’76 assisted Kyoko making phone calls and helping with the set up for the event, and Margaret Hoag ’86 moderated the students’ shared experiences about the college and the questions asked by the freshwomen and their parents. Recent and not so recent alumnae Bejay Ugale ’00, Sharon Gershman ’00, Sarah Gant ’81, and Debbie Jackson White ’68 also offered support. The event was appreciated by the freshwomen and their parents as evidenced by an email from one of the dads: “I have to tell you that Leah is so excited about going to Bryn Mawr, and I think these events both build her enthusiasm and help her prepare.”
