Bryn Mawr Running the World

Date: June 29, 2008
Location: New Charles River Run

This spring, Mawrters in eight states came together to participate in 5 km runs/walks as part of the Alumnae Association’s “Bryn Mawr Women Running the World” program. Here in the Boston area, five alumnae ranging from the class of ’79 to the class of ’07 tested their stamina at the New Charles River Run on Sunday, June 29th. On the scene were Katharine Davidge ʼ79, Artemis Hionides ʼ82, Polly Osell Kienle ʼ89, Kate Long ʼ00 (who ran the 7.5 mile race), and Abbey Mann ʼ07. We had
perfect runnerʼs weather, misty, grey, and cool-ish, for this sold-out race that took us on a loop on both sides of the Charles River near Harvard Square. All of us were quite pleased with our own performance and with how the race was organized and executed. Upon meeting after the race, our group agreed that we would like to continue participating in runs together throughout the summer.

Other area alums are welcome to join us in this. In the longer term, some women are already thinking about fall races, namely the 5k Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on September 7 and the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women on Monday, October 13.

Please join us during the summer and/or in the fall – bring your honed running stamina, your dream of it or your unabashed lack of it. If interested, contact Anna Fox Doherty ʼ97 or Polly Osell Kienle ʼ89.
